Nigerians, particularly entrepreneurs, have been urged by The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria REDAN to enter the lucrative real estate industry.
Dr Aliyu Oroji Wamakko, president of REDAN, made the plea at the association's 13th annual general meeting, which was held in Enugu.
Wamakko emphasized that individuals should enter the real estate market since it was a lucrative endeavour that "offers significant returns on investment, produces jobs, grows Capital Stock, provides shelter as well as making life comfortable for humans."
The head of REDAN stated that the organization had zero tolerance for dubious and subpar transactions and would keep collaborating with the government and its authorities to combat the threat of money laundering through the country's real estate industry.
He, therefore, urged their members to conduct their business with the utmost care and by the relevant regulations, emphasizing that there was no need for any of their members to tarnish their enterprise through unhealthy business connections.
He informed the audience, "Real Estate is our business and we must do everything in our ability to safeguard it and align it with best worldwide practices.
Wammako expressed her gratitude to Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his dedication to and interest in real estate development. He mentioned that many people, particularly civil servants, had homes provided by the governor.
He also expressed appreciation for the governor lodging roughly 100 government employees at a discounted and inexpensive price.
"We take note of Ugwuanyi's efforts to promote housing construction in Enugu State with great happiness and respect. He gave away numerous homes, but I want to highlight one in particular: He gave away 100 residences to civil servants by paying 50% of the sale price, he stated.
Ugwuanyi claimed that the government had made land procurement in the state easier by removing touts, which had in some way contributed to the increase in the Internally Generated Revenue IGR accruing to the state. Ugwuanyi was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya.
According to him, the government has started a process "where once a civil servant is retiring, he will have a place to live in" since it is worried about the wellbeing of its people.
